Hyper-realism (Compositing)
The sixth assignment of photography is a Hyper-realism photo, this type of photo combines multiple photos into one cohesive piece.
I tried to make a scene where an open book in a library released a poor individual trapped inside since it was closed.
I used the book to signify this being a library scene, also the bookcase almost out of frame.
My focal point is the guy reaching out for humanity, reaching for freedom.
I feel like my focal point did its job because on the critiques both people point out that guy as being the focal point of the image.
I tried this photo in two different ways, one way was a head-on shot, while the other was the side shot used here. The head on shot didn't look realistic enough in my words "it looked like a poor mans photoshop."
I used the quick selection tool to stitch these images together, I then erased parts that didn't belong on the border of the quick select, after that, I tried to lighten the face with a dodge.
Portrait
The fifth major assignment was to take a portrait, this required us to take a photo of a person in the desired lighting and scene.
My composition was to have a confident tone to it, with the stance and the facial expression
I used the pillars in the background to make my image seem grounded.
My focal point was the person in the center of the frame, he also takes up most of the frame so it's hard not to see him first.
I feel like people who view this image will be this person, the main reason is that there's light on his face which draws the eye towards his face. Another reason is that he is centered in the frame which could draw the eye.
One main problem with the scene that I had was camera position, it took a second to get it right, but that was always the background.
I used some dodging and burning to lighten and darken parts of the photo, I lightened the face a little and darkened the border of the frame.
HDRI Assignment
My fourth major assignment in photography was to create an HDRI image, this requires us to take multiple photos of the same scene in different exposures.
My intended composition was the building with the windows.
I utilized the sky and the tree on the right to convey a cooler winter image.
My focal point was the black building, my reasoning is that it was a strong color while the rest of the image was lighter in tone so that the eye was naturally pulled towards the stronger color.
I had a problem in the original composition where nothing particularly interesting stood out from the building as a focal point, so I had to move the camera to the right to show the sky and tree, it added more visuals for the viewer to look at.
When I took these images it looked like a very gloomy day and I didn't want my photo to look depressing. The technique I used was a photo filter, then I picked a cooling filter because I wanted the image to look like a cooler day rather than a dull gloomy day.

My third major assignment in my photography class was to stitch together a panorama, but we couldn’t take any indoor panorama’s and we couldn’t use the merge photos feature in photoshop.
The images on top are my original image before I went into photoshop to edit, the image on the bottom is the edited image.
I tried to set up this image by trying to get a little of everything in it (probably wasn’t the best idea.)
The focal point of my image was the red brick path, or at least that was the attempt. I did this because I thought that the path was in the center and I thought the eye would lock to it. But I’m not sure if it worked, because the image is a little cluttered and they may have very well looked at the red sign or the trash cans.
In photoshop I went in and used layer mask to blend the seems into a single image, I also cropped some of the images to make it feel longer rather than taller.
Things Assignment
My second major assignment in my photography class was to photograph an object on the border or the edge of the frame, but this time it had to be within 5 feet of the camera, we used the rest of the image to pull the viewer's attention to that object.
The image on the left was my original image before I went into photoshop to edit, the image on the right is the edited image.
I tried to set up this image by blurring the background, I also focused on the walk sign for a crisper look.
The focal point of my image was the walk sign, or at least that was the attempt. I did this because I thought that the sign would stand out in a black and white image with touchups.
In photoshop I went in and used dodge and burn to lighten and darken certain parts of the image, I did this so that the walk sign would stand out more than it already did, I also made this image into a black and white image, because there was a yellow fire hydrant that took the viewers’ attention.
On The Edge Assignment
The image on the left was my original image before I went into photoshop to edit, the image on the right is the edited image.
My first major assignment in my photography class was to photograph an object on the border or the edge of the frame, but it had to be more than 5 feet away from the camera, we used the rest of the image to pull the viewer's attention to that object.

I tried to set up this image by lining up the wine bottles so that they would make a vanishing point, I also used a flash to light up the scene for a better effect.
The focal point of my image was the corkscrew, or at least that was the attempt. I did this because I thought the vanishing point wine bottles would go straight to the lit-up corkscrew.
In photoshop I went in and used dodge and burn to lighten and darken certain parts of the image, I did this so that the corkscrew would stand out more than it already did.
